My Sunday at the De Young Museum in San Francisco

2 Weeks ago I went to San Francisco to see 2 expositions at the De Young Museum. The first one was about Stephen De Staebler             (1933 – 2011): “Matter + Spirit”, who created for more than 50 years figurative sculpture from clay. Drawing inspiration from fundamental childhood experiences with nature, a transformative adolescent encounter with mortality, and adult studies in the histories of art and religion, he explored and extended a tradition of human representation that includes the religious monuments of ancient Egypt, the Renaissance humanism of Michelangelo’s finished and unfinished figures, and the modern existentialism expressed in the works of Alberto Giacometti. His work is not at all what I do, but you feel his exploration and search for what life is about and his way of expression is really honest.                                                                                                                                  “Figurative Sculpture”
“Autobiographical Mask”

“Landscape Gaya”

“Egyptian King and Queen”

Then there was a Fashion Exposition from Jean Paul Gaultier: “From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk”.
“Jean Paul Gaultier talking” (a moving face!!!)

What a wonderful surprise! I like to dress nicely and wear interesting and good clothing. My Mom was a designer and maker of clothes and I have a niece who is really involved and makes already the most beautiful fabric prints, but entering the show and seeing so many different and very creative outfits and designs was just great! Jean Paul Gaultier launched his first prêt-à-porter collection in 1976 and founded his own couture house in 1997. Emerging as a designer in the 1970s, he developed his own dress codes that reflected the changing world around him.  The openly gay Gaultier uses his designs to tackle gender and transgender issues. Always provocative, he addresses issues of multiculturalism by bringing ethnic diversity to the Paris runway. The clothes are beautiful, superbly crafted with the finest dressmaking and detailing skills.

Then tomorrow I will have my last Herceptin treatment!!!!! and on Thursday they will take out the mediport from under my skin which they used for the infusions. I have to say if you need infusions this is the best choice and helped me tremendously. I feel very good and strong and am busy all the time. Sometimes still somewhat tired, but who isn’t sometimes.
I am just very happy that I am done, feel very lucky and thankful with my whole situation and support from my husband and boys, and family, and friends and the wonderful care and advice from all the doctors and nurses. THANK YOU!
